We got our 3 yesterday and I gave to the  kids as early xmas presents. They love it, absolutely love it, and figured out a lot about how to work it by trial and error, with their trial and error more successful than mine. We did have to look up how to get the mesh features to work, and I think that is going to be its most powerful feature--you don't get bored when you can interact with another human being on an activity even when the novelty of the activity, itself, wears off.  Hoping you guys get yours soon.

Imagine my surprise today to see the FedEx truck stop outside.  Yes, my XO is here!  I'm surprised because I ordered it on the 21st of November, and even though I had my confirmation number, nothing ever showed up on the FedEx tracking page.

I really wasn't expecting it until well after Christmas, so I wasn't even close to pushing the panic button yet.  Nonetheless, I'm not complaining.

And that makes at least two XOs in the San Antonio area.  Very cool.

So far, I've become somewhat familiar with it, but haven't connected to the internet with it yet.  But once I sign off here, it's back to playing, er....I mean, back to work.

This is very interesting to me. I also have my confirmation number but even checking it every half hour nothing has shown up yet. This gives me a little hope that it may appear without warning! Thanks

The icing on the cake is that the email arrived today to let me know the XO was in transit.  Don't be dismayed.  I think the OLPC people and others are busting their humps to get those computers out.

Day one donor - XO RECEIVED 12/21

December 25, 2007, 10:30:49 PM

I received ours on the 21st and had to re-package on the 23rd and put it under the tree for my 6yr old.  She thinks its great.  I've pretty much left her alone with it and she's managed to navigate the built-in apps.

I see the Austin has its own user's group.  What about SA?

Howdy from Friendswood,

Received my 3 XOs the 26th.  The FedEx email had arrived in my inbox overnight, but I didn't see it until after I brought the boxes in  :-)

Have spent my spare time since updating their software (so I can link them to my WPA 2 WiFi net), reading fora and wikis, and trying stuff out.

Was surprised to see them pop up on my iChat Bonjour List. iChat doesn't appear to be able to join a Chat Activity, though.

I think these will be a hit with the other geeks at the New Year's Eve party.

Have you done any experimenting with the mesh network?

Nivek,

my FedEx package was just attached to my fence for anyone to steal.  They should have left a note so that I could go to the fedex office.  (I wasn't home when it was delivered and they could not get on the property.)

So watch out and maybe contact your local Fedex office before the 3d to see who delivers in your area.

If I suggest it, I have tested it on my XO.

Some. Enough to know it works. That's why I Got 3.  ;-)

They were all in use during a friend's New Year's Eve party, doing Chat and Record in their little local mesh and garnering lots of "wow", "cool", "that's smaller than I expected", and "squee!" comments.

Haven't done any range tests.

Finally recieved mine! I spent the entire day trying to find the truck. I live in a small town and I usually can spot the UPS man in the morning and get my packages. But FedEx is rediculous and has 3 different trucks running around my town of 5000! So I found Express and Ground but it was coming on Home Delivery. Owell, I got mine and it is amazing! Look forward to getting a North Texas User Group together.

G1G1D1 and waited until March 11th, but it FINALLY came in! The mailroom at work didnt think it could be a laptop. So far:
The screen is quite nice, if small.
The keyboard is very aggravating, more link a two-finger keyboard.
This is SERIOUSLY portable, really quite light.
Wireless at home worked, got developers key, unlocked laptop, updated and installed XFCE, next to try Opera.
Probably try to get a 16G or so SDHC SD card soon, and when I can back it up will likely pull
Sugar off and go Ubuntu or the like, or just stick with Xfce if I can get everything loaded I want.
Still can't get the TMobile PIN, but it sounds like there's a delay of a few to several days between delivery and access to their system.
I'm seeing two other mesh sites in downtown Houston, now to figure out how to chat.
It's NEATO! But after almost 4 months, I was pretty close to canceling and getting an EEE.
