Just chiming in to say that this worked for me as well. I was gearing up to mess with a bunch of Linux commands (under Ubuntu to boot) and read this thread. It sounded like voodoo to me until I read so many posts of success. That was enough for me to give it a shot, and it worked.

If you are running build 650 (original G1G1) and your keyboard appears to have failed recently, someone has posted a simple software fix:

The keyboard freeze that occurred in rollover to 2011 is not a problem in 2012 (if you momentarily remove battery):
