Opera gone after 650 upgrade to 653

I successfully installed Opera with the 650 OS shipped with the laptop.  After upgrading to 653, Opera is apparently gone.  Is this normal?

As su, "find  / -name opera -print " finds various opera directories in  /versions/run/650/...
along with a filesystem loop.

Did the OS upgrade delete the bulk of the Opera files or are they still on the disk, uselessly taking up space?  Do I need to manually delete certain directories?  Do I need to, can I do do an automated uninstall?  Or do I just need to reinstall Opera?,  etc. etc.

Guidance much appreciated

653 installs itself, and leaves everything from 650 in a directory in case you need to revert.  But you have to install everything you did in 650 over again.  I had to do the same myself.

Thanks for your prompt reply but it l"m still unclear about what, if anything, to do, about the Opera installed under 650.  Should I just delete any directory named Opera?

Having restored 653 twice, Opera was reinstalled without having to delete any files or directories. They were cleared by the restore.

You might want to install Build 656 (just released) before doing anything further.
The install will wipe out all your data, including Opera !

bjprice,

You haven't said whether you upgraded using the olpc-update command or by pushing the game pad buttons. The the first way attempts to install the new OS without destroying data, and preserves a copy of your old OS which you can access by pressing the gamepad "O" on startup. The second way wipes your flash memory clean, and lays down a new OS. Opera may be preserved by the first method, but will surely be erased by the second.

What I do is keep my additions on the SD card so reinstalling (though painful) isn't that tough.  I have found over the years that clean installs are usually wise to do rather than upgrades....and that four-finger salute upgrade off USB is so cool...

I installed 653 using the olpc-update command; opera is lost.

I've been installing joyride builds to an SD card using the installing to USB drive instructions here:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OS_images_for_USB_disks
using the loopback instructions for losetup and they've been booting with the SD card inserted in the SD slot just fine.  I've had problems with unreadable fonts and wifi not always working.  When that happens, I just wait for another update to come along and usually the next joyride build works.  I've also been installing stuff like opera, mplayer and skype to an external usb drive so whenever i make changes it keeps from wiping those programs. So far, my biggest wish is for a phone/slideshow type view that automatically makes the photos fit the screen like what Gwenview is doing when I use it in Xubuntu which I boot from an external usb disk.

Okay, very new user!!  I upgraded to 656 using OLPC upgrade and lost everything.  Now I reinstalled Flash Player ver. 48 and I have tried the command for removing "Click to Play" but I have not had any success.  Any suggestions?
