Next Meeting?

We discussed varying the meeting times, as some people wanted a weekend meetup, and others wouldn't be able to meet for a weekend meetup. This topic is to discuss what would be best for the next meetup, and after that, we'll probably switch between weekends and non-weekend times.

Also, Walter Bender extended an invitation to drop by the OLPC offices for our next meetup, so that will probably factor into when we can meet as well. (AuntieMame, did you snag his contact info so that we can politely inquire?)

Leave a note mentioning the best times for you to drop by an XO meetup, and we'll try and tally things so that the most people possible can meetup. (And perhaps offer an alternate meetup time for those who can't make the primary.)

Also, feel free to put forth topics for the next meeting. Auntie Mame has been making a list as well.

What do you think? Commence kibitzing... Smiley

My after-work-hours schedule is pretty flexible, so I'm open to anything.

We may want to have several different meetings: one for people interested in learning about Python, one for people who want to spend more time using the Mesh and Chat, etc.

Just an idea...

I just LOVE typing out a long message and having the  computer hiccup so that I lose it all...    NOT! Angry

Anyway, here I go for a second time...

I had a great time at the meetup despite spending 25 minutes sitting at the OTHER Starbucks...

Thanks for the canvas bag, ideas for mice and flexible keyboards, and the general comraderie (?sp).

I am up for meeting pretty much any evening or weekend time. I would like to request  that we don't meet between 2/17 and 2/23. I am a teacher and I'm going away for a few days (not to anywhere fun or warm and sunny - just off to visit family, read a few books, and not have to drive any kids anywhere)

I will be happy to meet on the bookend days 2/16 and 2/24 - I can always leave later or come back early.

I would also like to suggest that we meet twice a month or six weeks. One time could be for techies - programming and the like, and the other for non-techies. That way, those interested in both could attend, and we wouldn't go two months between meetings (if you only were interested in one thing). Maybe we could alternate one weekday evening and one weekend day per month or six weeks. That way we could accomodate differing schedules.

Opinions and feedback?

I like the idea of a "tech" meeting being separate from a "content" or "play" meeting. We had folks at the meet that were interested in all of these, but not necessarily at the same time. (did that sentence make sense? it does to me, but I get the feeling its terribly confusing)

And several folks did express interest in weekend meets, too.

The thing is... someone has to be the organizer. PixelFish found herself in that role last time, but I don't know if she wants to repeat that. Maybe someone else has an idea/topic for a meeting and they'll be the person in charge of that meeting (is that another confusing sentence?)

I definitely prefer meetings during the week as opposed to weekends. Also, is it possible to meet earlier than 7:30 (6:30? 6:00?) since I have an hour and a half commute back to RI.

Also, for those of you looking for larger, flexible keyboards, I found that MicroCenter has them in stock ((727 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, 02139 - (617) 234-6400)). The brand name is Adesso (SKU #271163) and they come in black and white and cost $20. I bought one and it's plug-and-play with the XO. I'll bring it to the next meeting so anyone can try it out before buying.

OK. Lets start throwing out specifics.....

Tuesday seemed to work for many people.... so how about

Tuesday Feb 19 (3 weeks from last meet) @6PM

or Tuesday Feb 26 (one month from last meet) @6PM

earlier in the evening to let folks get home at a reasonable hour.  And pushy b*&#* that I am,  I think we should have an agenda for the meet. What do we want to do or discuss in addition to playtime? How about 45 minutes on doing basic upgrades to the XO (installing Opera, Flash, other tweaks...)?

Tuesday the 26th works for me (not school vacation).

Want to do Saturday 2/16 for the "techie" meeting? Anyone have the contact with Walter so we can have a meeting there?

Lynn (blue inside, purple outside)

(someday I'm going to come up with a better way to write that - I'm working on photo editing the screenshot I took last week on the XO to put on this forum where others have their pictures, etc)

another P.S.

Yes, let's leave time (45 min? as mentioned before) in the non-techies meeting to share Flash, Opera,  etc.

Either the 19th or the 26th works for me. A meeting time of 6:00 p.m. is great.

Regarding the meeting agenda, I personally prefer to have sections devoted to both content and technical issues in the same meeting instead of having separate meetings devoted to each. A typical meeting, regardless of time length, could be broken down like this:

5% - Get your coffee, greetings, old business and/or minutes.
20% - Content presentation (viewing, creation, issues, etc.)
20% - Technical presentation (programming, hardware, issues, etc.)
15% - "Birds of a feather" section (like-minded gatherings on content-technical topics of individual interest)

billmaya,
I think you just got yourself "elected" chairman the next meeting.  Grin

There hasn't been a lot of input from folks about the time/date. From the responses here it look like 2/26 would be the best.

I second that nomination.  Grin

I haven't been saying anything about the dates, because I have no idea if I'll be able attend at any time right now, regardless of when it is.

I've missed the D.C. meets so far (I live just across the border in VA) but I'll be in Boston the next two weeks, so if it's the 19th, I'm definitely down for meeting the Mass guys. If it's the 26th, no worries.

No matter when this next meeting is, I'd love to have a meet up in March - I'll be in Boston the 8-11th.

the 19th is only a couple of days away...

so I think by default we are meeting on the 26th. Anyone disagree?
