I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself.  My XO arrived at 5pm today, and I've done nothing but play with it since. 

The keyboard takes a little bit of getting used to, but after only a paragraph or so of typing, I was already getting the hang of it.  It's not that different from an ordinary keyboard in size, and is mercifully insensitive to brushing against neighboring keys.  I *like* how the keyboard is sealed. 

The touchpad really does need work.  Cursor jumps all over the place sometimes, and then sometimes it's quite well behaved. 

Screen is *wonderful*.

I tried an SD flash memory card in the slot, and it just appeared, with the option to unmount it.  So far so good, but I haven't figured out how to save to it yet. 

And I haven't figured out how to get it to connect to my secure wireless network.  The option to enter the password comes up, but then nothing happens. 

Also, where the blazes are the global preferences?  I want to set font size, XO graphic colors, all that fun stuff.  So many things to play with!

Yay! So that makes 4 VC/SB folks who have their XO's?

I'm still sans XO but I'm optimistic I'll get one in the earlier part of the delivery window.

the san fernado valley, but when school starts up again we would definitley

I've resurfaced.  It only took, what?, ten days of playing with my XO pretty much nonstop.  Man, is that thing fun. 

Turned out that getting WPA wireless connected required a bit of a kludge, but detailed instructions are here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/WPA_Manual_Setting  in case anyone else can use that info.

So, when's the meetup?  Huh?  Huh?  Where's the meetup?

Sorry I haven't been back to the Forum in a very long time.  I have been doing volunteer tech-support for OLPC, and forgot all about this forum.

Is anyone doing anything about getting folks together?  There are some wonderful things going on the the East.  We need to get something happening here too.

Is there anyway to "ping" the folks who have shown interest in a group in SB and Ven Cos?

Send them PM's individually? ... my XO is currently being used to help NoahE in Isla Vista. I think a user group would be fantastic, but I am only going to be here until July 21st, then I am moving to Hessleholm, Sweden. So as long as there is one before 3 months is up, I am up for it
