Hey there,
Congratulations on getting E17 to run. Here's a page that has some configuration info that might help you out:
http://polishlinux.org/apps/window-managers/e17-desktop-enlightenment/
You can skip the first part, as you've already got it installed!

Here is my desktop, in its current incarnation. Thank God I love small computers - the XO has become my daily use machine.
Ok electropriest, I have twoish questions for you, first, what is that theme that you are using in this screenshot and where did you get it? Secondish, how did you install firefox, and did it take up alot of room, I currently have about 17%
[EDIT: 33%]
storage space remaining. Thanks in advance.
P.S. If anybody else can answere these questions, it would be much apreciated.

Alas, the instructions from rraucci weren't complete enough for me to follow--as Pinke555 noted, the "Start=" line doesn't actually exist in the .xsession-example file and, Pinke, when I followed your instructions to create a new .xsession file with the exec line being the only code in the file, that didn't seem to work. My XO started doing some weird startup cycle where it would flash text, then a white screen, flash some more text then a white screen, until finally it said something about x trying to spawn too many times too quickly, so I hate to bail completely and do a clean install of Sugar. I had to do this because even when I did a hard restart the cycle would begin again.
I'd still like to try this again. Maybe rraucci could be more clear with how that xsession file should look?

Sorry about you having to reflash, did you write
exec enlightenment
or
exec enlightenment_start
? Also, if that ever happens to you again, just go to the console mode
ctrl
+
alt
+
group
or
neghborhood
. The same thing happened to me when I told it to
exec fluxbox
but I had forgotten to install fluxbox (fluxbox is another window manager that can be installed buy typing, as root
yum install fluxbox
I personally recommend E17) the whole flashy thing is just "x" trying to execute a window manager (GUI) that isn't there or available.

I am just connecting go wifi within sugar, then switching to enlightenment, is wifi-radar just a simple yum install? I want to try it out.

OK,
Here's how to edit the .xsession file, as for XFCE:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Xfce#Make_Xfce_the_default_environment
But for Enlightenment, use enlightenment_start, not startxfce4 or xterm.
Hope that works.

I will post screenshots, as I promised on page 3, but later, I am on my XO right now.
P.S. .xsession screenshots
Sorry, that I only got an actual screenshot of how to get to the .xsession file, my mac thinks that it is a hidden file on my usb drive and I can't access it, so here it is w/ a 2mp camera phone:
So there you have it, hope that clarifies some things.

Yep: yum install wifi-radar
It doesn't want to work for me under E17 though. Worked fine under fluxbox.
I could do what you're doing, but that's an awful lot of work since I'd like to have my XO running E17 as default.
Any wifi management suggestions are welcome... (guess I could just get iwconfig etc)
EDIT:
JK, wifi-radar wants to work today for some reason. I recommend everyone install it, it's easy to use (when it works)...
EDIT EDIT:
wifi-radar not working again...it can't seem to get an IP from my router...

Pinke, can I just have E17 installed but not have it automatically launch? Can't I just ignore the part about editing the .xsession file and just type into Terminal "enlightenment_start"?
Or does editing the .xsession file stop Sugar from booting, therefore freeing up resources?

thepete, I think that you might be able to type that into terminal, although I am not sure, I just deleted E17, I was just not using it. If you keep
exec enlightenment_start
in the .xsession file, then the next time it will boot up, it will boot into E17. Hope that helps.

Sugar, and sulking about OLPC [publicly] chosing windows over OSX, Steve offered OSX to them, at no cost!! I am just hoping that he announces an SD card for the XO running some flavor of Tiger or Leopard, but w/ all of the mesh capabilities included.
