Counter the bad news with good in the same news cycle...

The 1992 Clinton presidential campaign introduced the notion of responding to bad news in the same news cycle.  Since the OLPC shipping problems have now been Slashdotted, it would be is nice to see OLPC News address the issue head-on with percentages/numbers to emphasize the successes along with the steps taken to remedy problems.  The wiki page detailing How laptop delivery is supposed to work seems like a good starting point.

Thanks,

Mark

That is probably the issue... they cannot.  10% of missing laptops has grown to 20%.  The series of mis-information has been almost comical.  So the problem with responding with numbers is that sometimes numbers don't lie.

Good organizational ideals, bad management, no information.  Sigh.

Um...  is Clinton analogy the best example here?

I get what you mean...  But I get carried away by the Clinton story here...

In another words, they mastered and popularized (not introduced to be strictly speaking...) avoiding issues and start talking about something different...

sort of like when you point out to someone that there is a stain in your cup.... and that person turns the cup around and points out how the other side is clean.

That is more like avoiding issue.

There is something to be said about people just complaining to no end.  By now, you should know that OLPC organization or whatever firm they hired for G1G1 are utterly failing by any consumer standard of distributin products to their buyers.  But there is no point in just endlessly venting on forums.

However, this does not mean you just ignore the issues.  If there are posts about what the problem is.  Let it be.  Bringing up something that does not directly solve the legitimate issue will just make people more mad and turn that post into not just complaining about the issue, but more of an argument.

You have plenty of space to start posting about the good things about OLPC.
