Those sans XO are a vocal group. But how big is the group? OLPC says they have issues with "a number" of donors (~8K?) but through ThatSeattleGuy's great
G1G1 delivery breakdown
we have estimates of a much greater pool of unloved G1G0's.
And while I don't expect we would capture 100% of those still waiting, I'd like to start a running list of Give One Got None donors. Maybe we'll start to see trends, isolate issues, and give TSG enough for a whole book on G1G1 shipping
Please reply (once!) below with your:
Order Date: (approx time & month/day)
Order Method: (phone, website, paypal credit card, etc)
Known/Assumed Problem: (address, lost shipment, etc)
Communications: (method/date/synopsis)
Hope Coefficient: (your mood, from excited to exasperated)
Again,
please reply only once
!

-Dec 16th, 2007
-Website/paypal
-I think I'm just low on the list.
-Lots of Comm, just nothing worthwhile. Lots of "it's coming" but no concrete answer when.
-I'm optimistic. I do myself and the program no favours by loosing sleep over a toy.\
EDIT:
IT ARRIVED. March the 27th.

Let's see. November 12 midafternoon. NewJersey.
Credit card. Website.
No problems that anyone admitted to.
Two emails that were not answered. And are still not answered.
Called January 11 - was told it would be shipping out USPS to my P O Box.
Called January 23 - was told it would be shipping out Fedex to my P O Box.
Hanging in there but fast losing hope.

Order Date: 11/15
Order Method: clicked through to paypal from G1G1 website, paid with credit card.
Known/Assumed Problem: address, though never a past problem for FedEx or UPS.
Communications: emailed in reply to invalid address 12/16, several phone calls to donor services orally confirming shipping address, rec'd all known email responses about delivery, the last on 1/22.
Hope Coefficient: appalled, not at waiting, but at dissembling.

Order Date:
11/12 8am EST and 12/31
Order Method:
website / credit card via Paypal
Known/Assumed Problem:
None identified
Communications:
couple phone calls to get confirmation id's / currently relying on e-mail / e-mails on second purchase were mangled initially (much like lgarcia). Current e-mails are not refering to any confirmation number, but I believe they are focused on my first one.
Hope Coefficient:
hopeful but frustrated (I have volunteered to help with Brightstar as I live in Chicago). Really want for son (3) and concerned that over the last month his use of desktop could hinder uptake on XO.
UPDATE 1/26:
The D1 order arrived today (shipped 1/25) - see seperate topic for full discussion

Order Date: Nov 15, 2007
Order Method: Paypal
Known/Assumed Problem: depends on who you talk to (two-line address, street address 'failed' CAS verification - because the word Drive was absent from the street address)
Communications:email promising delivery by Jan 15, numerous phone calls to clueless reps.
Hope Coefficient: I don't even know how to calculate it, but I am dissapointed.
OLPC Donor Services did seem upset when I told them that I was promised (Monday, 1/21, on a recorded line!) that I'd receive my laptop in 7-10 days. That's verbal contract, isn't it?

Order Date: 11/13
Order Method: Paypal (purchased 2)
Known/Assumed Problem: unknown
Communications:
emailed 12/24 - no response
called 12/29 - "order is stuck. Not in shipping. I don't know why. They are fixing stuck orders end of this week"
called 1/3 - "order is in shipping waiting for FedEx to pick up"
called 1/8 - "whoever told you your order was waiting for FedEx is wrong. We don't have any insight into what happens at the warehouse. All we know is your order is in shipping. You should ship by 1/15"
emailed help@ 1/16 - got email that things will ship "next week"
got email 1/21 - "you are in the queue"
got email 1/23 - "will ship next week"
(above synopsis is missing a few emails to OLPC support with lame responses that I can't keep track of anymore)
Hope Coefficient: getting tired of waiting but still hoping

Order Date: 11/12
Order Method: Website/PayPal
Known/Assumed Problem: None
Communications:
1) called 1-800-201-7144 four times (first time 12/18): got confirmation number the first time, the remaining three times I was told that my problem went to shipping
2) sent five emails to
[email protected]
: got canned replies following the scripts of the delivery information from the laptopgiving.org website
3) received 12/21 email from OLPC Customer Care stating that XO will be delivered by 1/15
4) sent two emails (1/16 and 1/20) to
[email protected]
following the instructions from
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/G1G1_Fulfillment_Information#Do_you_have_an_OLPC_Customer_Support_Email_from_December.3F
1/16 reply: your order does not show up in the shipping database
1/21 reply: your order still has not migrated from donors' database to shipping database
5) received 1/21 email from OLPC Customer Care stating that XO was in queue for shipment and a new update was due for 1/23
6) received 1/23 email from OLPC Customer Care stating that the donation was sent to the warehouse for shipment and that the XO laptop will ship next week
Hope Coefficient: too superstitious to fill this one
1/25 Update:

Order date :12/7 10:30AM ET
Order method: Paypal
Known/Assumed Problem: unknown (address was confirmed and is a standard residential address) but probably the "systems glitch"
Communications: 3 calls to Donor Services (one gave me a reference number that had nothing to do with anything, two took my details and said that a supervisor would call me back--they never did) Only got a Paypal receipt until 1/21 e-mail. Also received the subsequent 1/23 e-mail. Sent a few e-mails seeking status but got just the automated response promised action in 3-5 business days (none came). A few e-mails to John Hall at Patriot who confirmed that I was "in the queue". To date, never been given a 70000xxxxx number.
Hope coefficient: game over man, game over

Order Date: 3:00am Pacific time 12Nov07
Order Method: Credit Card via
www.laptopgiving.org
(PayPal receipt)
Known/Assumed Problem: Unknown. Nine calls (seven “service reps”, two “supervisors”) reports each time the address is unacceptable to "cass", says they have now corrected and my laptop is on the way. It’s a residential address in Canada, self-employed with a FedEx account and at least three deliveries/pick-ups per week.
Communications:
Received
: 3:05am 12Nov07 email PayPal receipt number that the funds have been debited to the credit card; email 15Nov07 from “Nicolas” thanking and encouraging me to get my co-workers and friends to also participate, no order/receipt number provided; credit card statement 21Nov07 showing funds debited 12Nov07.
Initiated by me
: 21Dec07 to 24Jan08 -- nine calls to 800-201-7144, two calls to 800-883-8102 in which both times they “entered” my address and quoted seven to ten days for delivery; five email messages to “service”@laptopgiving.org, three email messages to “help”@laptop.org (not a single reply from a real person, only autoreply that I should expect a further reply within 3-5 biz days); four calls to FedEx looking for delivery from OLPC to my address.
Hope Coefficient: Zilch. Have faxed a mountain of documentation to Credit Card company today, which is pursuing return of my payment. The straw is that there is now no community to grow into the device and OS with because all the forum participants who have received are long advanced from the exploration and no longer interested in intro. It’s also looking like the people who are still waiting have lost their keenness and interest. Who wants to be a part of a community that feels the whole thing is a drag.

Order Date: November 21
Order Method: Website/PayPal
Known/Assumed Problem: No delivery
Communications: December 22 email saying, "Sorry about Christmas, you'll get your machine before January 15." Bounceback email reply to a January 18 query saying, "We got an amil from you and someone will answer it." Just got off the phone after being assured by some poor young person that my machine would be shipped "in the next few days." (I prefer the West African dodge: "Any time from now."
Hope Coefficient: What I hope is that a charity watchdog will audit this organization and let us know how many laptops actually make it to schoolchildren overseas.
