Hi!

Remember, a big Memory Card takes longer to view and tougher to find your files.

I am about ready to downgrade and get a 1 gig or smaller memory card, to get to my files faster.  Shocked

True, but there are ways to minimize that kind of latency, such as not keeping a completely flat directory structure and such. That way are reading the entire card each time you access something on it.

Cheers,

Can you post hints and tips on how to reduce the latency and create directories that are somewhat easy to use?  Or point to places for this info, please?

There is an 8GB SDHC card from newegg.com that was mentioned in earlier posts with a rebate.  The item is now listed at 29.25 with no need for a rebate.

Also, I was recently told that SD cards will be slowly phased out in favor of micro SD cards since they are smaller and cheaper to produce.  Another thread mentioned that the XO SD slot was not meant for constant removal of a card but rather as more of a permanent memory upgrade and that is why some cards have a problem ejecting.  So , my advice is to buy a larger SDHC card for the slot and leave it there and use SDHC/micro SDHC cards with a USB adapter for every-day type of uses.

(SD and SDHC are same size...HC stands for "High Capacity" which is a whole other topic)

microSDHC is at least twice as expensive than SDHC at the same capacity.  They are for different purposes, and SDHC isn't getting phased out any time before microSDHC is.

It does seem that the SD slot on the XO is placed to make unconvenient to swap cards often, but shouldn't be anything wrong with taking cards in and out.  As in, the slot is rated for 5,000+ insert/removals.

Buydig.com has the Sandisk 4 GB Extreme III Secure Digital HC Memory Card with MicroMate USB 2.0 Reader for 49.00 including shipping and there is a $30 rebate.  If you buy two, there is a $70 rebate and $110 for three.  I was able to pick three up when the price was down to $42.00 but it is still a good deal at $49 especially after the rebate brings it down to $19 or less.

I've had very good luck with Kingston 8GB Class 6 SDHC cards.  Newegg usually has a decent price on them.  I just bought my second one.  I use the cards for trying Linux distributions (Ubuntu Gutsy on one, Hardy on the other).  Both cards have had quite a work-out.  I tried the Transcend 16GB Class 6 and it was a disappointment - thin/flimsy construction and 20 bad blocks grouped together in the middle of the card.  I'm glad Newegg has a relatively painless return policy.

I have put some songs on a USB bracelet, that I got from xoexplosion, and they play really well (in etoys), but then when I go to play them again using etoys in (the journal), often I get: "error: a primitive has failed", and then I cannot play the song again.
I hope someone can help me with this.

Sorry, my error; the songs were all still there; I just had to scroll down!
