Hi, folks. I'm Mel (http://wiki.laptop.org/go/User:Mchua, an OLPC support-ganger and summer '07 intern who also happens to be severely hearing impaired. It's great to see all this interest and involvement in accessibility for the XO.

I wanted to make sure you all knew about some of the existing projects, groups, and resources out there for accessibility projects, although many of you have undoubtedly found your way to these already.

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Accessibility is turning into a portal for accessibility-related resources, projects, groups, and people on the wiki (revamping it is one of my projects for this upcoming weekend - help is welcome if you'd like to join me on chat any evening).

In general, we're trying to keep as many projects and as much information as possible on the OLPC wiki (http://wiki.laptop.org) to make it easy for people to find and contribute to things, so if you're starting a new group or project, please host it there, or at least create a wiki page letting people know where else to go for information.

There's an accessibility mailing list at http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/accessibility/.  It's been fairly low-traffic so far since core developers have been focusing on the general laptop itself, but with the enthusiasm of this group, I think we can change that. Archives (http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/accessibility/) are public, so you can read the past conversations to find out what's been happening, and then start chiming in on new topics of your own.

There's also chat. See http://wiki.laptop.org/go/IRC for more information on how to connect. The easiest way is to use the web chat at http://olpc.osuosl.org/chat and then, once you're logged in, type "/join #olpc-content" (no quotes) to join the content chatroom (you're connected to #olpc-help by default).

#olpc-content has been the de-facto place for accessibility-related discussions so far, although if we start generating enough traffic in there, we might eventually need our own #olpc-accessibility chatroom.

I'm usually hanging out in chat as mchua (other ways to contact me are on my wiki userpage), so feel free to ping if you need any help getting started.

Welcome, and good luck!

Awesome!  I just now signed up for the mailing list.  I've not gone through it all yet.

Nice to meet you!

I have not managed to get into chat yet -- I'll have to give it a try.
