Matching Gift Denied

When I ordered the XO I went to my company's (Gannett) matching grant website.

I wanted to match the $200 (not $400) that went to the child. Yesterday I received a letter that the matching gift was denied because it did not meet their criteria. I glanced over their long list of criteria and found that maybe since I received something for my donation that the match would not be available.

I haven't checked into this further but I have a toll free number that I can call.

Anyone else have any problems?

I didn't have problems but I work for a small enough company that there is a lot less red tape to go through.  I presented the idea of donating to this cause and my coworkers and the company contributed to buy a bunch for the kids while I got one and the company will keep two in the office.

You might want to try showing them the e-mail that has all of the tax deductible information on it, as it explicitly details precisely where your money was going. This e-mail was one of the first (maybe the first) from OLPC and had a signature from Nicholas Negroponte on it. Hope this helps!

Yes one of the first mails establishes OLPC is a non-profit group.  It shouldn't matter that you got something out of this.  $200 is a charitable contribution of goods.  it could be they have specific items they don't match like pc's?  I own my store so I better approve my donation!  Wink
