I can't help but notice that all these lines of ultra-portable, inexpensive, scaled-down notebooks are gradually increasing in size, features, and cost.

Which means that if OLPC can get its act together and KEEP it together, it will have fewer and fewer competitors in the "small, portable, just-the-essentials, low-priced" notebook category. The other so-called ultraportables are getting harder and harder to distinguish from their full-sized-notebook cousins.

Not really -- these "ultraportables" have about half the battery life of their "merely portable" cousins.
