Another day-one "donor" without an XO.  Ordered 2, or 4 total, depending on how you look at it.

7000005xxx

Fortunately, I found someone who did get one and was nice enough to let me have their's until mine is delivered, so that I could give it to my two nieces (ages 3 and 6) to share for xmas.  Both enjoyed it immensely.

It's amazing how fast a six-year old can master an XO.  Of course, it helps to have little fingers.

But I digress, back to G2G0...

No order confirmation email, except from PayPal.

Called them Dec. 31st, wasted an hour on the phone (mainly on hold), talked to a functional illiterate, gave him the correct shipping address and confirmed that it was correct.

First ever email from them came today (Jan 19th): The form letter stating "Our shipment systems are telling us that we cannot ship to the address that we have for you".

Responded with the correct address and phone number plus a rant.

I have promoted OLPC for years and I know that most of you day-oners are probably just like me.

Yeah, screw the people who are most likely to promote your activities.  What a great business plan!

If this is how they treat people in the USA and Canada who know how to say "class action lawsuit", imagine how they must treat their normal third-world customers.  Like dirt, no doubt.  Angry

Ditto ditto ditto.  G2G0 here, too.  Day 1 and Nov. 27.

But I finally have received an answer from a real person at Patriot and I have hope for the first time.  Everything I got from OLPC was either wrong, condescending, late, or insulting or a combination of all four.

I was SO looking forward to using my little laptops to promote the program but now I don't know how I could do it in all good conscience--can't seem to believe that they are doing really well getting thousands to the third world if they can't send two to Texas.

I donated for three on the very first day (I am in the US).

On 12/06/07 I received an e-mail telling me my address was wrong and to reply immediately or I would not get them in time for Christmas. I responded on 12/07/07 and received no reply (other than the automatic one).

On 12/21/07 I received another e-mail telling me to expect my laptops by 01/15/08. Nothing ever came. I wrote them an e-mail and received no response to that. On 01/16/07 I called and was told my address was wrong and was now corrected and I could expect the laptops to ship the next week.

On 01/19/08 I received another e-mail telling me that my address was wrong and to respond immediately via e-mail or wait until 01/22/08 to call. I responded with an e-mail. I also called on 01/22/08. On the phone they said my address was wrong (still?). It turns out their address input field is not long enough for my whole address so after shortening it their system finally said it was a valid address.

I was told to expect the laptops in mid-February. I was also made to feel as if it was my fault that the laptops had not shipped even though I was a first dayer (the OLPC person kept saying my address was incorrect-- even though I had sent several e-mails and spoken with them on the phone).

Shortly after I got off the phone I received another e-mail responding to the one I sent on 01/19/08 stating that my address was now correct and everything would be out in mid-February.

Given the incompetence I am rather afraid that after getting off the phone someone read my e-mail and inputed the "too long" address and so my address is once again correct. I will be calling tomorrow to make sure this is not the case.

I am very disappointed at the lack of communication.

Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock.

Five business days have passed and no response in sight.

Reminds me of a few scumbag ebay sellers I've dealt with.

Are there any 1st day donors that still are waiting?... I've checked FedEx and called using my reference number and still nada...

Yep, I'm still waiting too.  Does your shipping address return any errors (red text) when checked at https://www.fedex.com/saac/ ?

Edit: My XO arrived in the second week of March nearly 4 months to the day after my donation.

I just tried and it tells me my street address does not match my zip code.  Huh?  we get deliveries from Fedex et al all the time.  sigh. I guess this means another phone call......

Or maybe it means I don't live where I think I live.  Fedex can't be WRONG, can they?

Argh, my desired shipping address comes up as invalid too.  What is with that checker?

I did discover that if I changed my 'box' number there (not really a box, just a sort key for the people who work there) so that it had 'PMB' in front of it, FedEx was happy with it.  I've received packages (USPS, FedEx, and UPS) at that address before without obvious hassle, though.

Sigh, just another annoyance to have to combat...

Mine is also invalid although I get deliveries from FedEx and UPS all the time.

This should be a moot point since the last I heard they were going to be shipping to PO boxes or wherever you want with that alternate delivery service so where the house is shouldn't matter.

Look under "is your shipping address a po box."

WHATever.

Yes, it comes back Invalid or missing Apartment/Suite..  That's crazy!

FedEx has never had trouble finding me.

What's really funny is that's my company's FedEx Account Pickup & Billing Location to which FedEx regularly delivers.

Sooooo... I called FedEx and had them look up my account pickup address (which matched the one I checked).  The representative told me there would be no problem picking up from or delivering to the address.

Next, I talked to a FedEx technical support representative.  She said the online address checker has known problems and to ignore the error.

Is something really stupid like this holding things up?

I would happily issue an UPS Return Service (merchandise return) Label to OLPC if that would speed things up, but somehow, I don't think that's going to help.

I am a G1D1. Just got a successful FedEx tracking number at
https://fedex.com/AltRefTracking?cntry_code=us
I hope that the XOs are  really shipping again and it is not yet another "glitch" ...
