installing apps/activities

I want to install an app (notecase, an outliner/notes app). There are rpm files for fedora v7.0 for this software
I know I could simply use the terminal and do an rpm install, but:
1. would the new app appear as an 'activity'?
2. would it integrate with the sugar OS UI?
3. Could I launch it from the 'home' view?
4. would I need to have an *.xo version of the file?
5. How do I make an *.xo version of the rpm to allow installation and integration with the sugar OS UI?

or could I simply use the VIM/outliner that exists in the xo rpm repositories and install VIM/outliner instead? Huh

1. no not unless you write a small activity wrapper for it. if you feel comfortable enough to shell rpm stuff, taking apart one of the existing activities (in /usr/share/activities/) isn't too much harder
2. see 1
3. after you did 1
4. nope, opera activity and terminal activity are good examples
5. that one I dunno but found some info here:

I'm looking for a good note program also, short of just putting on another OS, which I may do anyway. But if you hear about anything good, or try something simple and like it, let us know!
