http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/10/olpc-hacked-to-run-amiga-os/

"Clearly a match made in heaven, the doomed-but-beloved Amiga OS has been made to run on the maybe-doomed-but-beloved OLPC. It's not running natively, sadly, so the real hack here is getting the Amiga Forever emulator running on NickNeg's baby, but still, this combination is just beautifully tragic."

Very cool combo indeed...

Although... I don't understand why everyone has been very negative about OLPC's lifespan...

press has been strangely negative about OLPC even from the start...

Don't know much about computers but LOVE my Olpc.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. What's up with that? It's as if the idea of an inexpensive computer for developing countries is really offensive to the media. Weird.

I would have to agree as well, gizmodo had a negative article about the lady who let olpc and her 75 dollar computer and how it will kill the olpc with no mention of her licensing the patents from olpc, my how we are of subject  Grin  I would love to play with this on my olpc.

You might have something here.

The media seems to like splitting the world in black and white. Shades of gray are too complicated.

A world that is split in us (wealthy people in the first world) and them (fly covered starving African children) is far easier to deal with, than the far more complicated reality.

So stories like "These children need food, not laptops!" and "Who will spend 100-200$ on laptops when they cannot afford food? This must fail!" are much easier to sell.

Just an idea

Actually, I was just thinking of Amiga OS on the XO yesterday. I was an avid Amiga user until 1999 when my Amiga 1200 (re-cased in a custom tower case with SCSI, 040 processor and Picasso gfx board) died.

This baby moved a lot faster at 40 MHz than the XO at 433 MHz. Granted, that was nine years ago, but the system was really ahead of its time. It was the most intuitive system I ever used, including all the Windows versions, Linux flavours and OS X which I have used since.

Now somebody please make an XO logo with an Amiga boing ball-colored head.

Maybe some many media members fear the loss of Wintel advertising dollars if they are too positive about a competing system.

I still have an Amiga 1000 -- oh, how far ahead of its time that machine was. In order to truly appreciate it, one needs to see its performance, graphics, etc. compared to its comtemporaries' performance. Nothing else even came close.

That is so cool! I would love to run Amiga OS on my XO. Now all we need is a port of BeOS and I'll be able to hop in my Delorean for a trip bank to the future!  Grin
