Lost Audio

At some point over the last couple of days I have lost audio - the record application runs and the light comes on over the mic but I get no audio playback.

TamTam activities play no sound.
Going into Pippy and running a sound application makes the faintest crackle but no audio.
I *DO* get the boot-up sound at power up.

I used to have sound on Doom but now it is silent too.

I have yum installed and yum erased samba and samba-client (along with their dependencies) but other than that haven't done too much weird stuff to it.

Any pointers?  I've searched this forum plus the user and development wikis at laptop.org.

Thanks!

I called into olpc support after running the XO hardware diag and getting no problems (it even played the sound file and recording tests just fine).  The agent offered to send a new laptop.  I asked about reflashing to 653 and he said give it a try.

I did, it now has sound.  Now I'm going to go re-yum opera and doom and leave well enough alone for a while.

I have the same problem sometimes.  For me it seems to be connected to installing VLC or Mplayer.  My sound works great and then one day it just stops. The only solution I have found is to reflash my XO and sound returns. The downside is I then have to reload everything.

Hola!

I am having a problem with my microphone/speakers when operating my Voip client activity. I saw a previous post, but can not find it now on how to do this using Terminal.

I have been thinking it was a Server issue, since the mic and speakers were both not operating. It could be a hardware or software issue. I reflashed my XO and only had the Voip client running, so the XO did not memory issues.

Last night, I did get the XO to  operate the speakers with mic without my plug in speakers added. My Voip server shows that calls have been made, so I doubt it is their problem.

It seems software related, since the mic and speakers both were not working when operating the Voip client.

Sometimes the XO operates, but that is about 5-10% of the time.

Look's like I have a hardware problem directly with the analog headphone when plugged in, but functional being 1 mm out of the outlet.

I am still testing my microphone problem!

This is the place that helps you with a software glitch with the XO.

amixer sset PCM 90% unmute

Repairs it in Terminal.

I had a hardware problem with a broken speaker-out extension cord.

My VOIP Server also had a delay of over 5 seconds sending my calls to South America.
