Well I for one am glad to see someone receive their RMA, as it gives some time frame for the rest of us.

Incase anyone was wondering, I figured out what the charges were from Purolator for customs & duties:

Brokerage fee - $18
Surety Bond Fee - $30 (!!!)
Duties - nada
Customs - nada

I got the XO I RMA'd on Jan. 4th back last night.  No notice and it's not the same machine -- if you're going to RMA and want to keep your work, be sure to back up to external HD or a memory stick; they're apparently replacing rather than repairing.

One of the comments on the support issue I had said they were sending one with the problem touchpad to ALPS. Im guessing they are worth more to research the failures than it is to repair them.

Tomorrow will be a month since I shipped my RMA'd XO. They must have some kind of tracking for these, I will be asking about it soon.

Colt -

You may just be in the shipping queue (which, if they ran out of machines, could be long). You can use the FEDEX alt shipping reference page to search for your RMA number. That will tell you if it's been shipped.

I was speaking more on OLPC having tracking while RMA's are at BrightStar. Good suggestion on the RMA reference tracking number search, I will try that when I get home.

edit. Didnt find anything with my RMA as reference on the FedEx tracking.  Undecided

Note that the Fedex reference number is in the form of "RMA00xxxxx".

Of course, you'd only find something if it has entered the FEDEX shipping stream. That was delivery minus ~3 days in my case.

Nothing in the Fedex system for me yet, and my XO was received Jan 15th.

Sent mine back January 30th. It wouldn't last more than 45min on a full charge and would die without warning at 48% on the battery meter.

I sent it back via Canada Post and it now looks like it "disappeared" on route. Tracking shows that it made it to the delivery office in the States by February 4th but that's where it seems to have vanished. Canada Post is investigating but the best I think I can hope for at this point is the insurance claim from Canada Post but that doesn't get me my XO back!

I suppose there's a slim chance that it did make it's way to Brightstar but just isn't in the tracking system. I've tried to get OLPC to confirm if they've received it but I've now been waiting 2 weeks for a response.

It's too bad that OLPC insists that it be returned in the original box. I've got to think that advertising what it is on the outside of the box is an aid to the less than honest who come across it en route. By now it's clear that the green XO on the outside of the box means "quick $400 on eBay" to those who are so motivated.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you get your insurance money. As irony would have it, you would probably end up buying that laptop back on ebay! Keep us posted.

I emailed support after mine has been gone for a month. They said "sorry for the delay, 2-3 weeks more". Guessing they dont have the numbers for repairs.

I thought I had postive news last night (March 5th) when I received an email from OLPC saying my laptop was on it's way! However, when I follow the tracking link it refers back to my original delivery back in January. It looks like I am just now receiving the shipment notification for the original laptop nearly 2 months after it happened! Does anyone know if the RMA units use the same reference number as the original? I doubt it.

I've asked OLPC for clarification but given that they have still not responded to my inquiries about the RMA, weeks and weeks after they were sent, I'm not holding out hope.

If it does turn out to be lost I will be pressing the issue with OLPC. While it was insured, the insured value wouldn't even cover the price they are currently going for on ebay.

Yeah, it seems there was a glitch in their system. I had the exact same reaction you did!

I've seen a few laptops going for less than $400 on ebay. I have actually been back and forth about trying to decide whether to sell mine when/if it finally arrives. I picked up an EeePC, and am loving it.
